Timber Creek hires Southlake Carroll OC Marshall Williams as next football coach
After 10 years, Timber Creek is getting its second head football coach.
And he comes from the same district.
Southlake Carroll offensive coordinator Marshall Williams was accepted as the Falcons’ next coach on Friday, which was first reported by Dave Campbell’s Matt Stepp on Twitter.
Williams replaces Kevin Golden, who stepped down from his post in December.
“I’m honored to join Timber Creek High School and excited for the opportunity to work with our amazing Falcons student-athletes,” Williams said in a press release from Keller ISD. “Keller ISD has a reputation for its strong community support for extracurricular programming, and I’m looking forward to building on the already stellar reputation of TCHS Athletics.”
Williams, who will also serve as Timber Creek’s boys athletic coordinator, returns to KISD, where he was Keller’s running backs coach from 2009-10. He also held stints at Brewer, Lovejoy, Burleson, Round Rock Cedar Ridge and his Alma mater Richland.
“We’re excited to welcome coach Williams to Keller ISD and to Timber Creek High School,” said Keller ISD Athletics Director Eric Persyn in the release. “He has a proven track record and has found tremendous success in his 16 years as coach. We are confident he will bring that same dedication to TCHS and be a terrific addition to the Falcon Family.”
Golden started the program in 2010 and had a 36-67 record, including 3-7 last season. He took Timber Creek to the playoffs in 2012 and 2016, when the Falcons won their only playoff game, versus Arlington Martin, 54-51
In the past two seasons at Carroll, Williams helped the offense average 44.6 points and 465 total yards in 28 games. The Dragons won a district title and reached the state quarterfinals in back-to-back years.
“Marshall did a great job,” Carroll coach Riley Dodge said. “When I was first hired at Carroll, I knew I was still going to be involved with the offense and make the calls, but I needed a guy that came from the same tree and spoke the same language, and Marshall was my first call.”
Timber Creek shares the same district with Carroll and will again next season. The UIL realigned the two schools in District 4-6A with Keller, Keller Central, Fossil Ridge, Byron Nelson and Eaton.
“Marshall does an amazing job with kids. He is a high energy guy and gets the best out of everybody, players and coaches. He’s a magnet when it comes to relationships and that’s what Timber Creek saw in him,” Dodge said. “Coaches always have buddies at different schools and it’s going to be no different with Marshall. It’s going to be fun competing with each other.”
