Watch as Missouri coaches go crazy after landing Duncanville star Ennis Rakestraw
Missouri and Alabama are both in the SEC, the toughest conference in the nation. So when the Tigers can edge the Crimson Tide in anything, it’s a good day.
Oh, and it’s great to land one of the high-rising athletes in the country.
Duncanville 2020 cornerback Ennis Rakestraw chose Missouri over Alabama during Wednesday’s National Signing Day. The 3-star prospect went from no offers to 27 in a year.
He also held offers from Georgia, Texas, Baylor and Miami.
Rakestraw was projected to go with Bama at 88 percent according to 247Sports.
It came down to the Tigers and Tide Wednesday morning and with a large group gathered at Duncanville High School, waiting for the announcement, in Missouri, its coaches were also waiting in anticipation.
Head coach Eliah Drinkwitz watched in suspense on his phone as Rakestraw made his decision on a live feed on Twitter. Let’s just say he was a bit excited about the news.
Rakestraw helped the Panthers to a No. 1 state ranking in Class 6A for the whole season. The Panthers went 15-1 and appeared in the 6A Division 1 state title game for the second straight year.
Rakestraw finished with 30 solo tackles, 15 deflections and one interception.
One of his biggest games came in the 6A D1 state semifinals when he held 5-star receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba to only five catches and 37 yards. The Panthers beat Rockwall 56-14.
Smith-Njigba is enrolled at Ohio State and was one of the top receivers in the state. He went on to win the Landry Award and Gatorade Texas player of they year.
