UIL realignment is Monday. Here are five topics for schools in the Fort Worth area
The UIL releases new districts every two years, and this Monday will be when the next announcement occurs.
The 2020-22 UIL realignment announcement will be made at Birdville Fine Arts Athletic Complex on Monday at 9 a.m. Check back at dfwvarsity.com to see where your team has landed.
There are several questions about what is to come. In the meantime, the Star-Telegram tackled five topics for schools in the Fort Worth area:
1. What will happen with Fort Worth ISD?
Trimble Tech returns to Class 5A and joins North Side, Polytechnic, South Hills, Southwest and Wyatt in 5A Division 2 football.
Carter-Riverside and Eastern Hills are 4A D2 along with Benbrook, Diamond Hill-Jarvis, Dunbar and Western Hills.
So who joins the six FWISD schools in 5A D2?
Justin Northwest was in the same football district during the current realignment, but the Texans have moved up to D1.
Grapevine is no stranger to Fort Worth schools as they were in the same district from 2014-17, but Aledo is another option. The Bearcats were in a Fort Worth district in 2012 and 2013, when they set a national record with 1,023 points scored.
Prediction: Aledo, Burleson, Everman, Joshua, Cleburne, Arlington Seguin, Mansfield Timberview
Grapevine, North Side, Wyatt, Tech, South Hills, Southwest, Poly
2. Will Paschal move out of the Arlington district?
Paschal is once again the only 6A FWISD school with Tech’s move to 5A, and with the addition of Boswell and Chisholm Trail to 6A, does it mean Paschal will be out of the Arlington district?
The Panthers have played with Arlington schools since 2010. The last time — 2009 — when it was Paschal, Abilene, Haltom, Richland, Weatherford, Burleson and North Crowley.
Prediction: Paschal, Weatherford, Boswell, Chisholm Trail, Euless Trinity, LD Bell, Haltom
Arlington, Martin, Lamar, Bowie, Sam Houston, North Crowley, Mansfield, Mansfield Lake Ridge
3. Does Kennedale move out of the FWISD district in 4A?
The Wildcats have been paired up with at least one FWISD team for the past eight seasons — Diamond Hill-Jarvis. And if you include Lake Worth and Castleberry, those four teams have been in the same district since 2012.
But it’s time for a change, one that will benefit Kennedale and FWISD.
In 2019, the Wildcats had margin of victories that included 66, 62, 49, 48 and 46 points.
With the move down from Carter-Riverside and Eastern Hills, FWISD will have six schools in 4A D1 along with Benbrook, Western Hills, Dunbar and Diamond Hill-Jarvis.
Prediction: Castleberry, Benbrook, DHJ, WHHS, Dunbar, Carter-Riverside, EHHS
Kennedale, Alvarado, Midlothian Heritage, Springtown, Lake Worth, Carrollton Ranchview
4. Where will Chisholm Trail/Boswell go in 6A?
It’s the first time the Rangers and Pioneers are in the largest classification.
This leaves a wide range for the two schools to go anywhere; maybe Weatherford. How about Byron Nelson, Eaton, Southlake Carroll and Keller ISD? Or Arlington?
Prediction: Boswell, CT, Weatherford, Euless Trinity, LD Bell, Haltom, Paschal
Southlake Carroll, Byron Nelson, Eaton, Keller, Timber Creek, Central, Fossil Ridge
5. Where will Northwest/Burleson Centennial land in 5A D1?
The Texans and Spartans jumped up to 5A D1 after spending the past two seasons in D2.
It makes the most sense to pair Northwest with the Denton schools. Ryan and Denton are paired with the likes of Birdville and Colleyville Heritage in the current realignment.
It will be a bit different not seeing the Centennial vs. Burleson rivalry in district play, but the Spartans should join teams like Crowley and Granbury. The three are in the same district in every other sport.
Prediction: Northwest, Ryan, Birdville, Colleyville Heritage, Denton, Mansfield Legacy, Mansfield Summit, Richland
Centennial, Crowley, Azle, Saginaw, Arlington Heights, Brewer, Granbury
