Amarillo Tascosa rushes for over 400 yards to edge Mansfield Lake Ridge
Mansfield Lake Ridge didn’t give up a single yard passing to Amarillo Tascosa in Saturday’s Class 6A Division II regional round game.
But that’s because Tascosa didn’t even attempt a pass due to the fact that the running game was working so well.
The Rebels gouged Lake Ridge for 423 yards on the ground and won a shootout, 43-34, at Grande Communications Stadium. Lake Ridge finishes the season 9-3.
Tascosa (10-3) advances to the state quarterfinals against unbeaten Haltom (13-0) at 6 p.m. on Dec. 8 at Lubbock’s Jones Stadium. Haltom beat Hebron 41-30.
It was a tight game where the final score was the biggest lead either team had.
Lake Ridge, which was playing in the regional round for the fifth-straight season, twice held the lead in the first half, the last time after a 2-yard scoring run by Dewone Jackson made it 21-15 in the second quarter.
But Tascosa’s DeAndre Campbell scored on a 49-yard run on the next possession and the Rebels led 22-21 at halftime, and never trailed again.
Lake Ridge senior quarterback Chandler Rogers ran for 142 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries while Jackson had 108 yards and two scores on 23 carries.
Campbell led Tascosa with 143 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries while quarterback Joseph Plunk had 118 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries.
