Hebron gets payback from regular season loss to Fossil Ridge with bi-district win
Hebron’s Jaylon Lott carried the ball 27 times for 91 yards as the Hawks (7-4) avenged a regular season loss to Keller Fossil Ridge (6-5) with a second half rally on the way to a 17-7 win in a Class 6A Division II bi-district playoff game at Keller ISD Stadium.
The two teams met in non-district, with Fossil Ridge taking a 37-17 win in Week 3. Colione Evans ran for 107 yards in the first matchup, but Hebron held Evans to 20 yards rushing in the first half Friday.
Evans still found a way to make an impact despite being limited on the ground. Scottie Colis found a wide-open Evans over the middle of the Hebron secondary. Evans took the pass and dashed 77 yards up the middle of the field for in the secondary for a 77-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter.
Grant Paulette connected on a 33-yard field goal with 2:39 remaining before halftime to cut Hebron’s deficit to 7-3 at the break.
The Hawks moved in front with 6:56 to play in the third quarter. Carson Harris found Trejan Bridges in the corner of end zone on a 5-yard touchdown pass to give the Hawks a 10-7 lead.
Play of the game: Hebron went for a touchdown on fourth-and-goal at the Fossil Ridge 1-yard line with 3:43 to play. The Panthers held Harris to no gain on a run up the middle to end the drive.
Game was over when: After Fossil Ridge’s goal line stand, the Panthers moved the ball to their own 15-yard line. Hebron linebacker Ben Rutherford picked off a pass at the 20 yard line and ran it back for a touchdown to lock up the game for the Hawks.
Offensive player of the game: Harris ran for 72 yards on 20 carries and threw the go ahead touchdown pass. Evan led Fossil Ridge with 64 yards rushing on 12 carries.
Defensive player of the game: Rutherford scored on an interception and also recovered a fumble to stop a Fossil Ridge drive in the fourth quarter.
What’s next? Hebron will play Richardson Pearce on Friday, November 23rd at Allen Stadium. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
