Mixon rushes for 250 yards and two TDs in Birdville win over Denton

Running back Laderrious Mixon rushed for 251 yards and two scores, quarterback Stone Earle totaled five more scores and the Birdville defense forced three interceptions as the Hawks defeated Denton, 49-20, on Thursday.

Game was over when: Laderrious Mixon scored from one-yard out late in the third quarter, giving Birdville the commanding two possession lead..

Play of the game: In the losing effort it goes to Elijah Thibodeaux, whom early in the third quarter, took a kickoff 98-yards for the score, at that time pulling Denton to within 28-20.

Paying tribute

Offensive player of the game: Co-honors are shared by Mixon’s four scores and Stone Earle’s five total scores.

Defensive player of the game: The honor is shared by three players on the side of Birdville’s defense, as Damian Morrell, Andrew Kopenec and Hosea Armstrong all had interceptions. The latter being a huge end zone pick late in the first quarter.

Unsung hero of the game: Denton quarterback Tyler Jackson, who finished with two scores thru the air on ten completions.

What’s next? Denton comes back home to face Carrollton Creekview, 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 26. Birdville travels to Carrollton Newman Smith, 7:00 p.m. on Oct 26.
