Davis accounts for 7 touchdowns in Timberview drubbing of Dallas Wilson
Mansfield Timberview quarterback Jordan Davis accounted for seven touchdowns as the Wolves ripped Dallas Wilson 54-7 in the District 6-5A Division I opener Thursday at Franklin Field.
The game was delayed by lightning for and hour and a half, but Timberview (2-2 overall, 1-0 district) started quickly.
The Wolves scored on the second play from scrimmage when Davis hit Stacy Sneed with a 72-yard scoring pass and a 7-0 lead.
Wilson (3-1, 0-1) answered with 4:28 left in the opening quarter when quarterback Lucas Woltjen found Curtis Thomas for a 42-yard TD to tie the game at seven.
It was all Timberview from there. Davis scored on runs of 24 and 3 yards and threw scoring passes of 38 and 21 yards to Teslim Abubakar and Sneed respectively to open a 33-7 lead at the half.
Game was over when: Davis darted up the middle for a three-yard touchdown with 1:39 left in the second quarter for a 26-7 lead. The Wolves forced a punt and scored again five plays later on Sneed’s 21 yard TD reception from Davis with 16 seconds left in the half.
Play of the game: Davis dribbled a snap, picked it up, rolled right and found Sneed open for a 59 yard touchdown to give Timberview a 40-7 lead with 8:12 left in the third quarter.
Offensive player of the game: Davis finished with seven rushes for 45 yards and two scores and went 6-of-10 passing for 226 yards. Five of his six passes were for touchdowns, three to Sneed.
Defensive player of the game: Timberview’s Terrell Tilmon recovered Wilson fumble to set up a touchdown in the third quarter.
Unsung hero of the game: The Wolves defense only recorded one turnover, but sacked the quarterback four times, forced 10 punts and allowed 96 yards rushing on 40 carries.
What’s next? District 6-5A Division I play continues as Mansfield Timberview will host Mansfield Legacy, No. 9 in the Star-Telegram 5A Power Rankings, at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 28 at Newsom Stadium. Dallas Wilson will travel to Highland Park, No. 2 in both the Associated Press Class 5A state poll and S-T 5A Power Rankings, at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 28.
