Mother Nature interupts Allen, Coppell with one team up 21-0
Allen delivered quite the storm in the second quarter Friday night but Mother Nature delivered a bigger punch.
The football game between DFWVarsity’s Class 6A No. 1 Allen and No. 6 Coppell was called due to lightning just as the two teams lined up to kick off the second half.
Allen was leading 21-0 before the game went into a weather delay and was called off about one hour later.
The Eagles scored all of their points in the second quarter. Grant Robinson opened the scoring with a 29-yard touchdown run. Celdon Manning followed with a 29-yard burst of his own. Quarterback Grant Tisdale capped off the big second quarter for Allen with a five-yard run.
Allen coach Terry Gambill said postgame that he was unsure if the game would resume. A text message sent to Coppell High School assistant athletics director Kit Pehl was not returned. The game was a non-district contest for both teams.
What’s next? Allen returns to Eagle Stadium Friday, Sept. 28, 7 p.m., for its District 6A-9 opener against Plano. Coppell is on a bye week and then opens District 6A-6 play at home against Irving MacArthur on Friday, Sept. 28, 7 p.m.
