Prosper’s ground game powers past Keller Timber Creek in blowout win
Prosper’s Wayne Anderson scored four touchdowns and finished with 208 yards of total offense as the Eagles (2-0) ran past Keller Timber Creek for a 56-14 win at Keller ISD Stadium on Friday.
Timber Creek kept the game close early. Anderson opened the scoring with a 47 yard touchdown run on Prosper’s second series. Blake Irving answered for the Falcons when he ran 34 yards for a score with 3:39 to play in the opening quarter. Anderson’s nine-yard touchdown put Prosper back on top, 14-7.
Prosper’s Keegan Shoemaker threw three touchdowns in the second quarter to help the Eagles break the game open. Shoemaker and Clarke connected twice on scoring throws covering 70 yards and 11 yards.
Game was over when: Trailing 28-7, Timber Creek missed a 46-yard field goal attempt with 3:06 remaining before halftime. Prosper took over and moved 71 yards in seven plays for a score. Shoemaker’s 31 yard touchdown pass to Anderson stretched the Eagles’ lead to 35-7 at the break.
Play of the game: Prosper opened up a 21-7 lead when Jostein Clarke took a short pass from Shoemaker and scored on a 70 yard touchdown reception one minute into the second quarter.
Offensive player of the game: Anderson ran for 157 yards on 15 carries with three touchdowns. He added 51 yards receiving with a score. Irving finished as the game’s leading rusher with 171 yards on 17 carries.
Defensive player of the game: Prosper’s Devin Haskins picked off a pass in the flat and ran it back 25 yards for a touchdown midway through the third quarter.
Big picture outlook: Prosper appears to be a solid playoff contender in its first season moving up from Class 5A to 6A. Timber Creek looks to regroup next week to finish non-district on a positive note.
What’s next? Propser plays host to Flower Mound on September 14th at 7:00 p.m. Timber Creek travels to Mesquite Memorial Stadium on September 14th to take on West Mesquite at 7:00 p.m.
