Dawson Pell’s rushing and Titus Swen’s big-play receiving lead Eaton to victory over SGP
Senior running back Dawson Pell ran for 150 yards and one score, leading the way in Eaton’s 27-12 victory Friday night over South Grand Prairie, on a rain-delayed night at Northwest ISD Stadium. The game was delayed for over an hour before kickoff.
South Grand Prairie got on the board first with quarterback Drake Logan’s 15-yard run, before Eaton’s Titus Swen tied the score late, on a 71-yard catch from Amari Blount. Blount finished the night with 127 yards through the air and the one score, while Swen finished with 80 yards receiving.
With the score tied at 7-7, South Grand Prairie’s defense forced a safety as Junior linebacker Milton Phifer’s tackle gave them the 9-7 lead. Following a shortened halftime, Lamb again connected on a 32-yard field goal, increasing the Eaton [2-0] lead to 13-9, and on the ensuing defensive possession, Senior safety Kamron Robinson, returned an interception 40-yards, giving Eaton a 20-9 lead, following the Lamb extra point.
Still, in the third, South Grand Prairie [0-2] kicker Christian Vazquez brought the score closer, as he connected on a 31-yard field goal, putting the score at 20-12, but late in the third, Pell’s 60-yard score gave Eaton the 27-12 win.
In the victory, Eaton totaled over 300 yards, thanks in part to five different rushers finishing with 177 yards, led by Pell. For South Grand Prairie, running back Javarius Crawford ended with 73 yards on the ground, while receiver Deamikkio Nathan caught five balls for 57 yards.
