High School Football

Area high school football coaches can expect a sleepless night Jan. 31

The final night of January will be a restless one for every UIL high school football coach.

There’s no big game on Feb. 1, but the future could hold many indeed when the UIL at 9 a.m. Thursday releases football and basketball district realignments that begin next fall.

There’s even a live cable TV show on Fox Sports Southwest.

Coaches around Tarrant County will gather at Birdville school district’s Fine Arts/Athletics Complex to iron out football schedules through 2019. Some of those coaches will no doubt begin updating resumés shortly after the meeting.

The UIL, which organizes extra-curricular activities for the state’s approximately 1,200 public and charter schools, conducts a biennial realignment of competitive districts to account for population shifts and the opening of new schools.
