Mansfield Legacy 42, Burleson 3

Legacy scored on its first play from scrimmage and didn’t let up in a Class 5A Division II bi-district playoff against Burleson at Farrington Field. The teams had a combined 17 victories coming in. Legacy plays Dallas Kimball in the area round on Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Kincaide Stadium in Dallas.

Key players: Legacy’s Jalen Catalon (three rushes, 113 yards) and Grant Johnson accounted for four touchdowns running and passing in the first half, and defensive tackle Rodney Jones pounced on a blocked punt in the end zone. Catalon’s touchdown pass to Nathan Rooney made it 35-0. Jared Hopper also had an interception to end a Burleson drive at the Legacy 15.

Key stat: Legacy’s defense held Burleson to 94 yards in the first half, and the offense had 276 yards on only 11 plays. The Broncos’ longest drive of the half was three plays. Burleson got on the board in the second half with an Edgar Lopez 42-yard field goal.
