Nelson rallies against Denton Guyer in Class 6A playoffs

Bobcats quarterback Nick Santini threw a 46-yard touchdown to Chase McLean with 2:48 to go, and the defense came through on a late fourth down to give the Bobcats a Class 6A Division II playoff victory over the Wildcats at Denton’s C.H. Collins Stadium. Nelson last advanced to the second round as a 4A (now 5A) team in 2011.

Key players: Nelson running back Jordan Joiner carried 17 times for 133 yards and a touchdown to lead the Bobcat rushing game. Santini was 11 of 18 passing for 173 yards and two TDs. Denton Guyer QB Luke Sitwell passed for 76 yards and added 154 yards rushing on 20 carries.

Key stat: After falling behind 14-0 in the second quarter, Nelson scored 21 unanswered to overcome the deficit. Guyer had never lost a first-round playoff game before the Nelson win.

Record: Trophy Club Nelson 5-6, Denton Guyer 7-4
