Lake Ridge holds off a late rally from Centennial

Mansfield Lake Ridge’s defense broke up a pass at the goal line, helping the Eagles defeat Burleson Centennial 35-27 in a Class 5A Division II bi-district playoff game at Mansfield’s R.L. Anderson Stadium.
Key players: Lake Ridge quarterback Jason Bean ran for two touchdowns and threw for two scores. The senior finished with 124 yards rushing on a 12 carries and completed eight of 15 passes for 77 yards. Centennial’s third-string quarterback, David Robinson, led a spirited comeback attempt for the Spartans. Robinson rushed for 133 yards, including a pair of scores. Chris Mosely also scored a pair of touchdowns for the Spartans. Facing and fourth and 10 at the Lake Ridge 14 with eight seconds left, Robinson’s pass over the middle to Wellington Bridges was knocked away.
Key stat: Lake Ridge scored 28 points in the second quarter, including a touchdown on the final play of the half to build a 35-20 lead. In the second half, Centennial’s defense held the Eagles scoreless.
