Laderrious Mixon and Damian Morrell led the Hawks past the previously unbeaten Scoprions in a Class 5A Division I bi-district game Friday at Chisholm Trail High School’s Ranger Stadium. The Hawks won for the fourth time in five games following a 1-5 start to the season. Birdville scored on their first four possessions. Mixon finished the night with touchdown runs of 1, 5 and 15 yards and caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Stone Earle. Morrell caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Earle, who also ran in an 8-yard score.
Key players: Mixon rushed for 186 yards on 31 carries and caught four passes for 62 yards. Morrell rushed for 106 yards on 20 carries and caught a pair of passes for 23 yards. For South Hills, Anthony Watkins rushed 10 times for 53 yards.
Key stat: Birdville controlled time of possession 33 minutes, 36 seconds to 14:24. Birdville meets Denton Ryan (11-0) in the area round of the playoffs, Friday at 3 p.m. at Saginaw High School’s Rough Rider Stadium.
