Richland powers past Fort Worth Southwest in football playoffs

The Rebels moved on in the UIL Class 5A Division II playoffs Thursday by doubling up the Raiders at Chisholm Trail’s Ranger Stadium. The Rebels powered their way to nine touchdown drives behind quarterback Drew Trent, who threw six touchdown passes. For good measure, Trent escaped on a 49-yardscoring run of his own as Richland built a 41-17 advantage at the half.
Key players: Richland receiver Shamar Johnson caught four touchdown passes, while teammate Rashee Rice finished with four catches for 95 yards and two scores. Raider quarterback Octavio Martinez threw for 242 yards and three touchdowns.
Key stats: Southwest countered with a 447-yard effort on offense, but could not overcome 17 penalties and four turnovers.
Records: Richland 9-2, Fort Worth Southwest 7-4.
