Lake Ridge cruises to district perfection, downing Waxahachie

Lake Ridge coasted to an undefeated district championship with a 42-17 win over the Indians as both teams tune up for the Class 5A playoffs next week. The Eagles scored on their second play from scrimmage and built a 35-0 lead at the half.

Key players: Eagles running back Cartraven Walker broke out for big runs, carrying seven times for 145 yards and scoring three touchdowns rushing. Walker also caught a pass for a score. Lake Ridge running back Dewone Jackson added 94 yards and a touchdown on 11 rushes. Quarterback Jason Bean completed 8-of-11 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Jaden Watson led the way for Waxahachie, rushing for 62 yards and scoring the Indians’ first touchdown.

Key stat: Waxahachie threatened to stay even with Lake Ridge early, advancing deep into Eagles territory on its first two possessions. But fumbles at the end of both drives — the second one on the Lake Ridge one yard line — left it scoreless and trailing 14-0.
