Grapevine’s air game overcomes Birdville, both teams look to playoffs

Grapevine, led by Alan Bowman’s five passing touchdowns, needed a late defensive stand to hold off a rally by Birdville as it secured the 42-32 victory.
With the win, Grapevine moves on to face Fort Worth YMLA at Pennington Fieldon Thursday at 7 p.m. Birdville will open its playoff campaign against Fort Worth South Hills, also on Thursday at 7 p.m., at Saginaw Chisholm Trail.
Key players: Bowman had 300 yards passing and five scores, three of which found David Clayton. Clayton finished with nine receptions for 151 yards, while Jordan Brooks-Wess caught six passes for 154 yards and one score. Birdville running back Damien Morrell finished with 111 yards and two scores.
Key stat: Birdville dominated the rushing game (202 yards to Grapevine’s 83) while Grapevine ruled the air with 319 passing yards to Birdville’s 146.
