Richland back rushes for 170 yards, 3 TDs in win over Keller Central

Rylee Johnson’s second touchdown run represented the go-ahead score at the 11:18 mark of the fourth quarter, and his third – a 33-yard burst – put the icing on the cake with 1:17 left in the Richland Rebels’ non-district victory over the Keller Central Chargers on Thursday night at the BISD Fine Arts/Athletics Complex.

Key players: Johnson rushed for 170 yards on 30 carries, and 74 yards on nine carries on the game-clinching drive. Richland QB Drew Trent, who left with an apparent injury in the second quarter, passed for a TD to Kenneth Reeves II. Ja’Corey Ashley and Kevin Garcia each had interceptions. For Central, WR D.J. Graham had a 64-yard TD reception from QB Grant Meek. Graham also had an interception on defense. RB Isaiah Ganaway rushed for 69 yards and a TD.

Key stat: Protecting a three-point lead in the fourth quarter and the ball inside its own 1, Richland sent out backup QB and punter Gavin Colopy, who flipped the field with a 60-yard punt. The addition of a 15-yard penalty against Central changed field position by a total of 75 yards.
