First-half touchdown salvo sparks Dallas Samuell past Fort Worth Polytechnic 41-6

Dallas Samuell strolled to a 41-0 halftime lead after scoring on its first five drives and recovered two fumbles as the Spartans cruised to a 41-6 victory Thursday night at Forester Stadium in Dallas. Junior defensive lineman Tyler Mayo returned a fumble 16 yards for a score to put Samuell on top 20-0 at the 6:14 mark of the first quarter. In the first half, the Spartans, who improved to 2-0 with the win, amassed 302 yards of offense to minus-19 yards for the Fighting Parrots.

Key players: Samuell junior quarterback John’Turius Shaw went an efficient 11 of 12 through the air for 165 yards with three touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown, all in the first half. He had scoring passes of 6, 19 and 14 yards and a rushing score of 14 yards. Spartans senior wideout Michael Morris hauled in three catches for 75 yards while senior Ta’Juwan Nix rushed for 83 rushing yards on six carries. Polytechnic senior quarterback Lachadrick Robinson ran in from 10 yards out in the third quarter to produce the first points of 2017 for the Parrots.

Key stat: Polytechnic was held to two first downs in the first half, both via penalty.
