Six first-half scores help Irving roll past Fort Worth Paschal

Irving strolled to a 40-0 halftime lead after scoring on its first six drives — the first three starting at Fort Worth Paschal’s 30-, 30- and 45-yard lines — as the Tigers beat the Panthers 40-14 on Saturday night at Clark Stadium. In the first half, the Tigers gained 206 yards on offense while the defense recovered four fumbles and limited the Panthers to 48 yards.

Key players: Irving running back James Miles rushed nine times for 53 yards and two touchdowns (4 and 6 yards) in the opening half. D.J. Stephenson had an efficient night by going 8 of 10 passing with 143 yards and touchdowns of 29, 30 and 11 yards to Miles, Rodney Lawton and Soloman Neal. Lawton caught five passes on the night for 96 yards. Paschal scored with 1:30 left in the third quarter on a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cooper Bates to Chase Bell. Harrison Parsons picked up an Irving fumble in the end zone in the fourth quarter for the final score.

Key stat: Paschal had just two plays in Irving territory during the first half.
