North Crowley 46, The Colony 27
Why North Crowley won: Panthers quarterback Caleb Leake accounted for six touchdowns, including four passing to wideout and Louisiana-Monroe commit Julian Jones, to hold off an explosive team from The Colony at Panther Stadium. Jones got all four of his receptions, all for touchdowns on 126 yards, in the first half. Panthers tailback Jailen Robinson also kept the chains moving with 114 yards rushing for. The Colony pulled within 34-21 in the third quarter but couldn’t bear down defensively.
Key players: Leake finished with 57 yards rushing and threw for an efficient 154 yards on only nine completions. He and Robinson averaged a combined 9.3 yards per play rushing and passing. The Colony’s Jadan Abdallah rushed for 100 yards and had a 56-yard touchdown reception.
Key stat: North Crowley had the offense but also 120 yards in penalties to start the season, including a number of personal fouls and sideline calls. The Panthers also missed five of seven conversion attempts. The Colony went to its backup QB, Mikey Harrington and probably has its starter after he went 14-for-19 for 184 yards.
