Keller Central wins, but Birdville made a furious comeback
Keller Central jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter, but had to hold off a Birdville rally for a 17-16 season-opening win Thursday at Keller ISD Stadium.
Key players: Keller Central’s Grant Meek threw two touchdown passes in the first quarter. Hosea Armstrong started Birdville’s comeback with a 25-yard interception return for a score just before halftime. The Hawks’ Skylar Noble threw for 164 yards and scored on a 2-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Key stat: Keller Central took a 14-0 lead before Birdville ran a play on offense. Meek threw a 70-yard touchdown pass to D.J. Graham on the first series. The Chargers then recovered a fumble on the kickoff. Meek followed up with a 13-yard scoring throw to Isaiah Ganaway.
