Aledo and DeSoto football among nation’s elite with 16-0 seasons

Aledo and DeSoto football teams are among just eight schools in the nation to finish the 2016 season with 16-0 records, according to a list by CBS/MaxPreps website.

The other 16-0 teams are from Texas or North Carolina: Bremond, Gunter, West Orange-Stark, Reidsville (N.C.), Shelby (N.C.), and Wake Forest (N.C.).

Texas also can boast two six-man undefeated teams: 14-0 Richland Springs and 13-0 Baytown Christian.

According to MaxPreps, more than 16,000 high schools fielded football teams in 2016 -- including 6-man, 8-man, 9-man squads -- and just 178 were undefeated.
