Bowie escapes with late rally

Braydon Johnson took a short pass from Donoven Davenport and weaved through traffic for a 24-yard touchdown reception with 1:46 left in the game as Arlington Bowie edged past Keller Central for a 20-17 victory in a Class 6A Division II bi-district playoff at Keller ISD Stadium on Thursday. The Chargers moved to the Volunteers 33-yard line with under a minute to play. A 22-yard loss on a fumble while trying to avoid a sack put Central into fourth-and-32. The Volunteers’ Khari Clarkson intercepted the Hail Mary pass to put the game away.

Key players: Davenport threw for 271 yards on 18-of-34 passing. Central’s Zion Purvis ran 122 yards on 15 carries. The Chargers’ Isaiah Ganaway led all receivers with 133 yards on seven receptions.

Key stat: Keller Central held Arlington Bowie without a score on three consecutive possessions inside the Chargers’ 9-yard line during the second quarter.

Records: Arlington Bowie 9-2; Keller Central 6-5
