Aledo and Mansfield were up to the task last week as each team outlasted a rival to secure the respective district titles.
And while the defenses were stout for both teams, the Bearcats and Tigers had a bevy of big plays to fuel their high-powered offenses.
Throw in plays from Keller Fossil Ridge, Mansfield Lake Ridge and Arlington Lamar, and it was a busy and season-changing weekend around Tarrant County.
The Star-Telegram video staff caught several candidates for Fort Worth Play of the Year and despite Aledo working through it’s normal routine, Mansfield needed some reserves to step up into the mix.
The week 10 plays of the week are as follows:
Quarterback Chance Fuller tossed a 48-yard scoring pass to wide receiver Dayton Dubbs in a 48-9 win over Paschal.
Fuller connected three times with Dubbs in the 48-9 win, which leaves the Vikings alive for a playoff spot.
Aledo’s Hunter Rossen snuck behind coverage Friday and brought in a 40-yard TD pass from quarterback Dillon Davis.
The strike was part of a 21-point run in the final two minutes of the second quarter in the rout of Justin Northwest.
With their top receiver and running back sitting out, Derique Ryan grabbed this 36-yard TD strike from QB Shawn Hartsfied to break open a tight game against Arlington Bowie.
Hartsfield completed 6 passes for 151 yards and two scores and Ryan had two catches for 71 yards in Mansfield’s district title clinching win.
Quarterback Prince Mavula helped get his team back in the game after falling behind 14-0 early against Aledo.
Mavula found wide receiver Leo Saldana breaking toward the goal line for this 17-yard TD pass.
Needing a big play to secure their ticket to the postseason, the Cougars got a 34-yard field goal from Osbal Benitez as time expired to beat Burleson 17-14.
The win clinched a playoff spot for Seguin in District 9-5A and improved the squad to 6-3 on the season.
The Timberwolves needed a big game from their offense to secure a playoff spot in District 10-5A and Quarterback Zeke Kuyawa was up to the challenge.
He delivered a strike to the back of the end zone for Julian Dunson, who eventually gathered the ball and put Timberview up 21-7.
KELLER FOSSIL RIDGE
It took overtime for Fossil Ridge to get past Weatherford and who better to seal things than the guy who finished with three interceptions in the game.
Cole Crawford picked off this pass in the third overtime as Fossil Ridge went on to secure a playoff spot with the win.
