Grapevine rallies into playoffs
Fort Worth Eastern Hills almost pulled of an upset as they hosted the second-place Grapevine Mustangs at Scarborough-Handley Field in Fort Worth. The Highlanders led 26-20 in the second before trailing 27-26 at halftime. But the Mustangs shut down Eastern Hills the rest of the game for a 51-26 Grapevine win and playoff berth in District 8-5A.
Key players: Grapevine QB Alan Bowman threw for 228 yards on 18-of-29 passes and five TDs . Eastern Hills QB Anthony Maxwell passed for 231 yards and three TDs. Highlanders WR Byron Hobbs caught three passes for 125 yards and two scores, including a 94-yard pass in the second quarter that gave Eastern Hills the 26-20 lead.
Key stat: Grapevine’s defense collected three interceptions.
Records: Grapevine 8-1, 5-1 8-5A; Eastern Hills 3-6, 1-5.
