Abilene proves nearly unstoppable in rolling over Haltom
Abilene scored on seven of its first eight possessions Friday to pull away from the Buffalos 44-18 in the District 3-6A opener for both teams.
Key players: Abilene running back Abram Smith ran 22 times for 209 yards and scored three touchdowns. Haltom’s J.Q. Reed answered with 92 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries, but got 51 of those yards on just two plays.
Key stat: Abilene survived 132 yards in penalties, and an interception that set up a Haltom score, by compiling 507 total yards on 69 plays.
