For Week 2, the candidates are:

SOUTHWEST

Southwest defensive back Garvin Smith was in the right place at the right time, returning an interception 54 yards for a touchdown on the Raiders’ way to a convincing win over FW Eastern Hills.

ALEDO

Running back Michael Jordan needed some extra effort, and it paid off in a 4-yard touchdown run that helped spark the Bearcats to a 65-7 win over California’s Westlake Village.

MANSFIELD SUMMIT

Derek Johnson scored the second of his three touchdowns, threading the needle on a 4-yard score in the Jaguars’ 33-0 win over Chisholm Trail.

HASLET EATON

Defensive end Tyran Callaway was in pursuit of a Frisco Reedy ball carrier when he came up with the ball and good field position. But it wasn’t enough in the Eagles’ 43-38 loss Friday.

SOUTHLAKE CARROLL

After Carroll’s offense struggled in the season opener, the Dragons flexed some muscle Friday night in a 37-14 win over Arlington Martin with plays like this “tip-drill” reception from Robert Barnes.

KELLER

Needing a spark to open the second half, Michael Anderson got it done in style, taking the kickoff 99 yards to the house and pulling the Indians within 19-16 of McKinney.

CEDAR HILL

Marquise Forman’s third touchdown against Mansfield was the biggest, a game-winner in the final seconds on a 2-yard run. The Longhorns avenged a late-season 2015 loss to their district rival from the last two years and avoided an 0-2 start to this season.
