Girls Basketball playoff recap: LD Bell snaps playoff skid, area teams open bi-district

LD Bell 82, Arlington Bowie 53

The No. 11 Blue Raiders snapped their five-game playoff losing streak in dominating fashion, beating the Volunteers, No. 4 in District 4-6A, by nearly 30 points during a Class 6A Region 1 bi-district game at Grand Prairie on Monday.

Bell (30-3) will play in the area round for the first time since 2014 to face Amarillo Tascosa, which beat El Paso Franklin 63-27.

4-star Alabama bound guard Myra Gordon led all scorers with 27 points. Halle Rhodes chipped in 23 for the Blue Raiders.

Bell outscored the Vols by 11 in the first quarter and led 38-24 at halftime.

A’Mari Dickerson led Bowie (13-18) with 21 points.

Southlake Carroll 50, Flower Mound 45

The Lady Dragons hung on for their first playoff win since 2015, defeating the Jaguars in a 6A Region 1 bi-district game at Colleyville Heritage.

Carroll (25-10) awaits DeSoto or Pearce in the area round.

West Texas A&M bound guard Jillian Sowell led a balanced attack with 11 points while sister Jordyn added 8.

Camryn Tade scored 8 points while Kaelyn Riley chipped in 7.

Makenzie Schott had 16 points to lead Flower Mound (25-10).

Benbrook 62, Uplift Summit 9

The Bobcats breezed past Uplift as eight players scored. The program wins its playoff opener for the second straight season (first year playing in 2017).

Four players were in double figures led by Bridgette Wright’s 15 points, 11 from both Ashanti Hunter and Miah Overton while Quiarra Bolton added 10 for Benbrook.

The Bobcats (12-17) will face Dallas Lincoln (22-8) in the area round of the Class 4A Region 2 bracket. Lincoln beat Anna 69-45.
