Why was Fort Worth Wyatt boys’ soccer removed from the UIL Class 5A Division 2 Playoffs?
Fort Worth Wyatt’s boys soccer team has been removed from the UIL Class 5A Division 2 playoffs.
Wyatt’s removal was due to the inadvertent use of an ineligible player in the bi-district round, Fort Worth ISD Athletics told the Star-Telegram. There was a “misinterpretation on a player ejection” in Wyatt’s final regular season game.
As a result, Wyatt forfeited a 2-1 bi-district round playoff victory over Mansfield Summit on Thursday, March 20, at Vernon Newsome Stadium.
Mansfield Summit (14-7-2) advances to the area round, where they’ll face Saginaw (11-9-2) at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 24, at Keller ISD Stadium. The Jags and Rough Riders finished second in their respective districts.
Wyatt, coming off a dominant District 7-5A championship run, finishes its season with a 20-3 record. The Chaparrals were arguably one of the best Class 5A squads in the greater Fort Worth-area; Wyatt scored 67 goals and conceded 22.
After losing its third game of non-district play, Wyatt went on an 18-game win streak that lasted until the final game of the regular season. This streak included wins over Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis, an elite 4A squad, and Waco, a dominant district champion.
