Keller edges Colleyville Heritage in opener of area-round playoff series

Matt Cavanagh singled and scored and teammate Hunter Seay scored on an error in the bottom of the third inning as Keller beat Colleyville Heritage 2-1 in Game 1 of a best-of-three Class 6A area-round baseball series Thursday at Prosper High School.

Corbin Bozosi, Seay and Shane Langeliers combined to scatter seven hits and the lone run on the mound for Keller (23-8-2). Bozosi had five strikeouts.

Cavanagh was 1 for 3 as was Seay, Langeliers and Zane Wilkinson.

Colleyville Heritage pitcher Isaiah Alvarenga gave up one earned run and five hits while striking out three and walking three.

Connor Bell was 3 for 3 for Heritage (21-14), which scored its only run in the fourth when Logan Knowles came across on a fielder’s choice.

Hebron 4, Southlake Carroll 1: The Hawks (26-6) scored three runs in the top of the seventh to take Game 1 of the best-of-three Class 6A area-round series at QuikTrip Park in Grand Prairie.

Nick Fraze gave up a run and six hits while striking out six in a complete game for Hebron.

Austin Stone doubled to right field in the seventh, scoring Micah Lloyd and Michael Betrus for the game-winning runs.

Trevor Harris pitched 6  1/3 innings for Carroll (21-7-1), giving up two earned runs and five hits with seven strikeouts.

Arlington Heights 4, Saginaw Chisholm Trail 3 (10): Peyton Cook reached on an error and pinch runner Austin McBee scored in the bottom of the 10th when Harrison Beethe singled to center field for the game-winner to open the Class 5A area-round series at Brock High School.

Heights (22-6) took a 3-1 lead into the seventh inning, but Chisholm Trail (12-10-2) scored two runs to send the game to extra innings.

Starting pitcher and Texas signee Blair Henley gave up just an earned run and four hits in 9  1/3 innings before Cook came on in relief to the win.

Clayton Walker delivered a two-run single to center field in the bottom of the second, scoring Beethe and P.K. Summers, to help the Yellow Jackets grab an early lead.

Walker was 2 for 4 and Beethe was 2 for 5 with another RBI.

The Rangers leveled things in the seventh when Nick Trujillo scored on a fielder’s choice and Triston McQuiston tied the game on a passed ball.

Chisholm Trail’s Michael Rodriguez doubled to left field in the 8th and advanced to third on a stolen base. But the Rangers couldn’t score and stranded two more in the extra frames.

Granbury 2, Grapevine 1: Starting pitcher Matthew Hickey gave up a run and five hits while striking out five as the Pirates (25-6) took the opener in the best-of-three Class 5A area-round series at White Settlement Brewer High School.

Landon Weatherly was 2 for 3 with a run scored and Landon Gray and Chance Turney were 1 for 2 to lead Granbury.

Turney had the game-winning hit, a double to right field, in the bottom of the first.

Connor Neuman was 1 for 3 with a run scored as was Joseph Leal to lead Grapevine (25-4-2).

Leal had an RBI single to left field in the fourth inning.

Starting pitcher Kyle Flamm went six innings, giving up two earned runs and six hits while striking out eight for the Mustangs.
