Lake Dallas knocks out Saginaw Boswell; Aledo advances

Saginaw Boswell’s offense did something it has rarely done this season: It went silent.

Lake Dallas won 5-0 and 12-6 Friday at Justin Northwest to sweep the best-of-three bi-district playoff series.

Boswell Game 1 starter J.J. Lundquist allowed five earned runs and seven hits, while striking out nine in 5  1/3 innings.

“You got to give a lot of credit to their pitcher, he kept us off balance and we just didn’t hit it,” Boswell coach Steve Foster said. “J.J. got a couple of bad breaks in Game 1, they got some timely hits and we walked some guys and you can’t do that in the playoffs.”

Ben McConnell was 2 for 8 in the series with two runs scored and an RBI for Lake Dallas (21-9). Christian Boulware was 2 for 7 with a three-run homer in Game 2, Daniel Rivera was 2-5 with two runs scored and Ty Behringer was 3-8 with three RBI.

Blake Foster was 2 for 7 and scored two runs, Anthony Ramirez was 3-6 and Zach Wood 2-6 for Boswell (14-16).

Aledo 5, Fort Worth Western Hills 0: Michael Alvarez was 2 for 4 and scored a run, and Jacob Ashkinos was 1 for 4 with another run scored as the Bearcats (21-8) eliminated the Cougars (10-16) in a one-game 5A bi-district playoff. Cody Bradford pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out seven for Aledo.

Flower Mound 3, Keller Timber Creek 2: Mateo Gil went 2 for 3 with two RBIs to help rally the Falcons (23-6) from a two-run deficit, but the Jaguars (20-7) won Game 1 of a 6A bi-district series. Game 2 is set for today at 1 p.m. back at Trophy Club Nelson. Jacob Slaughter was 1 for 3 and scored a run for the Falcons (23-6-1). Parker Scott picked up the win for Flower Mound (20-7), scattering four hits and two runs while striking out nine.

Midland 17, Arlington 5: The Bulldogs (22-10) collected 15 hits and starter Brady Bolger scattered five runs to take Game 1 of a 6A bi-district series against the Colts (12-15). Colts starting pitcher Michael Baumann was chased in the fifth after Midland scored eight runs on eight hits. Alan Falks was 3 for 3 for Arlington and scored three runs.

McKinney Boyd 3, Keller Fossil Ridge 1: Justin Gordon was 1 for 2 with a run scored and Dylan Neuse had an RBI, but the Broncos won Game 1 of the best-of-three series at QuikTrip Park in Grand Prairie. Grant Restmeyer went the distance for Boyd (21-9-1), giving up just a run and three hits while striking out four. Carlos Tavera took the loss for Fossil Ridge (19-12), giving up three earned runs on four hits while striking out seven.

Midland Lee 11, Arlington Martin 1: Martin starter Nick Skeffington gave up only one earned run, but Lee routed last year’s Class 6A Region I champion and state runner-up at Sweetwater High School. Evan Mata led the Rebels (21-6), going five innings and giving up only one run on seven hits and striking out nine.
