Softball roundup: Keller Timber Creek tops Hurst Bell in Game 1
Vanessa Alonzo’s two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning broke a 4-4 tie and Keller Timber Creek beat Hurst L.D. Bell 6-4 in Game 1 of their best-of-three Class 6A area-round series Friday.
Game 2 is at noon Saturday at Bell with Game 3 to follow, if necessary.
The Blue Raiders (20-10) had scored three in the top of the fifth, with a two-run single by Randi Castillo tying the game 4-4. Bell, which trailed 3-0 after one inning, scored in the fourth on Brilee Krajca’s RBI single.
Timber Creek (22-8) scored three times in the first as Caitlyn Curlee had a two-run single.
Aledo 5 Azle 1
Landri Mays’ two-run double in the first inning was enough for starting pitcher Hannah Andrews as the Bearcats (19-10) beat the Hornets (28-7) in Game 1 of a 5A area playoff series at Saginaw Chisholm Trail.
After Azle’s Sam Bradley hit an RBI single off the center-field wall in the top of the first, Mays gave Aledo the lead for good.
Andrews (13-8) added a two-run single in the sixth. She allowed three hits and struck out four.
Game 2 is at Chisholm Trail at noon Saturday, with Game 3 to follow, if necessary.
Plano West 5 Southlake Carroll 0
Senior Sierra Lange struck out 15 and allowed just two hits as the Wolves (27-3) eliminated the Dragons (22-11) in a one-game 6A area playoff at Flower Mound.
Dragons starter Cami Green held Plano West scoreless until the fourth inning, when Mikaela Gilliam got things going for the Wolves with an RBI single. Two batters later, Gabi Hancher blasted one off the wall in straight-away center to bring home two more runs and make it 3-0.
Madison Cashon and McKenzie Schneider had the hits for Carroll.
Keller 10 Midlothian 1
Hanna Jones and Kasey Simpson each homered and pitcher Kaylee Rogers (22-3) struck out 10 as the Indians won the 6A one-game area series.
Burleson Centennial 11 Lake Dallas 2
Reagan Ellison’s RBI bunt single in the fourth broke a 2-2 tie and the Spartans scored five times in the sixth to win the 5A one-game area series.
Crystal Peebles (10-3) struck out eight in 6 1/3 innings as Centennial faces Burleson in the regional quarterfinals. Burleson swept Saginaw Boswell on Friday.
