FW Trimble Tech earns first playoff berth since ’89
Fort Worth Trimble Tech defeated Fort Worth Southwest 28-0 Thursday at Scarborough-Handley Field, clinching the fourth and final playoff spot in District 7-5A and giving the Bulldogs their first playoff berth since 1989.
Austin Davis threw for 189 yards on 9-of-12 passing and two touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs (6-4, 3-3 District 7-5A). He added 48 yards rushing and one touchdown.
The Bulldogs got on the board early after taking the first drive nine plays for 72 yards, capped by a 1-yard quarterback sneak from Davis with 8:50 left in the opening quarter.
Southwest recovered a fumble at the Bulldogs’ 11-yard line after Trimble Tech threw a lateral pass, but two plays later, Cedric Richardson intercepted a pass in the end zone.
Following the interception, the Bulldogs took the ensuing drive 80 yards for a 14-yard touchdown pass from Davis to Jaylon McLean one minute into the second quarter.
Trimble Tech scored near the end of the third quarter when Davis found Andy Silos for a 22-yard touchdown pass to put the Bulldogs up 21-0.
Vernon Kimbrough added a 6-yard touchdown run late in the fourth to seal the victory.
Silos finished with five catches for 124 yards and one touchdown, while Kimbrough rushed 12 times for 63 yards. The Bulldogs rushed for 142 yards and held the Raiders (2-8, 2-4) to 147 yards of total offense.
Greg Mims led Southwest with 19 carries for 76 yards.
The Bulldogs clinched the second seed in Division I while Fort Worth Arlington Heights captured the top seed. Fort Worth South Hills clinched the top seed in Division II, and Fort Worth Wyatt is the second seed.
