Coppell holds off Colleyville Heritage
Coppell almost let things get out of hand before putting away Colleyville Heritage 34-22 Friday in District 7-6A contest at Buddy Echols Field
The teams came into the matchup with identical 4-4, 2-2 records and the knowledge that the winner would lock up a playoff spot. The Cowboys (5-4, 3-2) are in, while the Panthers (4-5, 2-3) and Richland (3-6, 2-3) meet for the fourth and final 7-6A playoff spot next week.
Coppell built a 27-3 lead in the third quarter, but Demarco Corbin’s 8-yard run late in the third quarter narrowed the deficit to 27-10.
Corbin came back in the fourth quarter to collect a 27-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Anderson to reduce the Coppell lead to 27-15.
The Panthers then recovered an onside kick, and Anderson found Nelson Bohanon for a 28-yard touchdown strike with 3:45 left in the game to trim Coppell’s lead to 27-22.
Colleyville Heritage attempted another onside kick, but this time Coppell recovered. Cowboys running back Charles West closed out the scoring when he sprinted 56 yards for a touchdown and 34-22 lead.
