Fort Worth Dunbar, Mansfield Timberview double up at coaches convention

Only a select few are chosen for the all-star games run by the Texas High School Coaches Association, but Fort Worth Dunbar and Mansfield Timberview have doubled up on the competition.

Dunbar and Timberview both have a player apiece on the North basketball and football all-star teams at the THSCA’s annual state convention, which runs Monday through Wednesday in San Antonio.

“We have two good players in both sports,” said Dunbar basketball guard Dennis Jones, who joins fellow Wildcats football player Stepfawn Hughes in the Alamo City. “I want to get me some dunks, and I want him to get a big run. He’s capable.”

Schools can only send one player to each all-star game, and the selections are spread between players in all five UIL classifications. Hughes is listed as a wide receiver and running back.

“I didn’t know they picked him too until I heard from Dennis,” Hughes said. “Then I really got amped that two of us are going. It’s really exciting.”

The Timberview Wolves are represented by basketball guard Alex Robinson and quarterback Tevin Muse, a Tyler Junior College signee.

Keller Fossil Ridge wide receiver Ryan Parker, who has signed with TCU and Tyler JC, said he has already worked out with Muse at Tyler and looks forward to Tuesday’s football game.

“It will definitely help,” Parker said. “We’re kind of on the same page already.”
