The Lake Worth school district named Armando Gutierrez as Lake Worth High School’s next athletic director and head football coach, and he will start July 1, according to Matt Stepp of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

Gutierrez previously coached at Brownsville Lopez from 2018 to 2022, leading the Lobos to six wins before being reassigned.

He also served as a head coach at Dallas Sunset from 2011 to 2016, leading the Bison to snap a 27-game losing streak in the 2014 season. He has had stints as an assistant at Thomas Jefferson High School and North Dallas High School.

According to his LinkedIn page, he has also worked at the Denton, Los Fresnos Consolidated, Houston and La Joya school districts in administrative roles.

Gutuerrez will take over a Lake Worth squad that posted a 2-9 overall and 2-3 District 6-4A Division I record en route to a bi-district playoff appearance. He is set to replace Todd Peterman, a former state champion with DeSoto who led the Bullfrogs to a 4-17 record in two seasons.
