North Crowley cornerback John Meredith III, the No. 1 high school football recruit in the state according to one service, has been ruled ineligible to play his senior season, the Dallas Morning News reported Friday.

The District 11-6A executive committee voted 5-2 on Thursday that Meredith transferred to North Crowley from Euless Trinity for athletic reasons, the Morning News said, citing confirmation from Mansfield ISD executive director of athletics Jerod Womack.

Meredith can appeal the ruling to the University Interscholastic League.

Meredith, listed at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, is the No. 1 recruit in the state according to the 247Sports rankings and No. 2 in the nation according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

In March, Meredith told Rivals that his college choice was down to six schools: Alabama, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas and Texas A&M.

North Crowley is entering its first season under head coach DeMarcus Harris, who was promoted from assistant head coach and defensive coordinator after Ray Gates left to become the defensive line coach at the University of North Texas.
