Southlake Carroll wins 10th Lone Star Cup and another prestigious award

Southlake Carroll added another award to the trophy case Friday.

The Dragons won the 2026 Class 6A UIL Lone Star Cup, an award that honors athletic departments for overall success based on performance in district and state championships. It’s the 10th overall Lone Star Cup for Carroll.

According to the UIL, the Dragons’ 132 points were the most in Class 6A’s history. Lewisville Flower Mound was second with 112 points.

Carroll also was the inaugural Class 6A recipient of the Texas Cup, an award from the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association honoring the top athletic department in the state.

While the Lone Star Cup takes activities like music, robotics, spirit, film, drama and academics into consideration, the Texas Cup is focused solely on athletics.

Breaking down Southlake Carroll’s strong year

Carroll started the string of success with its first ever volleyball state championship. The Dragons defeated Austin in a five-set thriller at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland to win the Class 6A Division II title.

Dragon football made the Class 6A Division II state semifinals, falling to DeSoto in what was arguably Texas high school football’s game of the year. Before the loss, Carroll was ranked No. 1 in Texas and won the District 4-6A title with an undefeated run.

Carroll girls basketball won the District 4-6A championship with an undefeated run en route to an area round appearance.

Running standout Caden Leonard was a force, winning his third consecutive cross country state championship. In track, he set the UIL state meet record with a blazing time of 8:48.81 in the 3,200 meters, winning another title.

Southlake Carroll boys and girls soccer both had teams that were standouts in the Fort Worth area. The girls team made it to the state semifinals, falling 1-0 to Forney.

Aledo takes second in Class 5A

Aledo finished second in Class 5A with 106 points, just behind Prosper Walnut Grove at 112.

Aledo is moving up to Class 6A next school year.
