A radio commentator affiliated with Hallsville ISD said he “wouldn’t be mad” if a White Settlement Brewer softball player got hit in the head Wednesday during Game 1 of a UIL high school softball Class 5A Division II state semifinal series at Athens High School.

“I wouldn’t be mad if she got [a ball] in the earhole,” the broadcaster said in an audio clip obtained by the Star-Telegram. “I’m not supposed to say that.”

The broadcaster went on to say the Brewer athlete “had gotten a little cocky” and said, “I’m going to get in trouble for that.” His broadcast partner dismissed the comment, saying he wouldn’t get in trouble and joked that the station’s three viewers wouldn’t report it.

Hallsville ISD removed the broadcast from its social media channels. It aired on Bobcat Radio (104.9 FM in Hallsville), which is a non-profit project owned by the Hallsville Independent School District and managed by the Hallsville ISD Technology department.

The Star-Telegram reached out to Hallsville ISD and Bobcat Radio requesting comment and has not received a response.

Brewer won Game 1 of the best of three series 8-2. Game 2 is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Athens. Game 3, if necessary, will be played shortly after Game 2.
