Class 6A UIL state track: Carroll runner sets meet record, more from area
The UIL Texas Class 6A high school state track meet is underway at Mike A. Myers Field in Austin, and several Fort Worth-area athletes are competing.

Southlake Carroll’s Caden Leonard adds to lengthy legacy
Southlake Carroll senior Caden Leonard entered the state meet looking to win three consecutive titles in the 1600-meter and consecutive titles in the 3200-meter.
He completed the latter, posting a blazing time of 8:48.81 to set a new UIL state meet record. The second place finisher, Denton Guyer’s Ruel Newberry, finished in 8:53.23.
Leonard is also a three-time cross-country state champion and is widely regarded as the most successful distance runner in Texas history. He’ll compete in the 1600-meter run at 8:15 p.m.
Carroll senior thrives in girls 3200 meter
Southlake Carroll senior Lana Gutierrez took third in the girls 3200 meter with a 10:44.77 time. Denton Braswell’s Macy Wingard won the state championship, outrunning the competition by a significant margin (10.19.32).
