Class 6A UIL state track: Carroll runner sets meet record, more from area
The UIL Texas Class 6A high school state track meet was held Saturday at Mike A. Myers Field in Austin.

Southlake Carroll’s Caden Leonard adds to lengthy legacy
Southlake Carroll senior Caden Leonard entered the state meet looking to win three consecutive titles in the 1,600 meters and consecutive titles in the 3,200 meters.
The North Carolina signee completed the latter, posting a blazing time of 8:48.81 to set a new UIL state meet record. The second-place finisher, Denton Guyer’s Ruel Newberry, finished in 8:53.23.
Leonard is also a three-time cross country state champion and is widely regarded as the most successful distance runner in Texas history.
In the 1,600 meters he placed fifth with a 4:13.74 time.
Eaton’s Kaden Bram wins discus throw title
Northwest Eaton senior Kaden Bram won gold in boys discus with a 188-9 mark. The second-place finisher, Cyelan Whitley of Schertz Clemens, posted a 184-8 mark.
Arlington Martin’s Cavitt continues dominance
Arlington Martin senior Caitlyn Cavitt thrived in the girls long jump, winning the state title with a 20-7 mark. Northwest’s Levariya Pinder also had a strong showing, finishing in third place (20-2).
Cavitt also performed well in the 100 meters, placing fourth with a 11.35 time.
Byron Nelson athlete wins title in long jump
Byron Nelson senior Jayden Frye won the state championship in boys long jump with a 25-0 mark. Arlington Martin’s Kevin Grant also thrived, finishing third (24-2.50).
Bell senior wins gold in shot put
Hurst L.D. Bell senior Micaiah Canady won a state title in boys shot put with a strong 65-11.50 mark. The second-place finisher, Cypress Creek’s Marlon Cook, had a 61-3.75 mark.
Bell claims another state title in triple jump
Bell’s run of success continued when junior Jacob Anthony claimed first in the boys triple jump with a 51-1 mark. Euless Trinity’s Caleb Adom finished second (50-8.75).
Euless Trinity junior places third in 300-meter hurdles
Euless Trinity junior Chayce Davis placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a 36.48 time. Andrew Jones of Klein Collins won the state title (36.00).
Mansfield Legacy senior podiums in 800 meters
Mansfield Legacy senior Lincoln Wright thrived in the 800 meters, placing second with a 1:53.61 time. Nicholas Ferguson of Houston Heights won the state title (1:52.91).
Carroll senior thrives in girls 3,200 meters
Southlake Carroll senior Lana Gutierrez took third in the girls 3,200 meters with a 10:44.77 time. Denton Braswell’s Macy Wingard won the state championship, outrunning the competition by a significant margin (10.19.32).
