Brewer softball makes program history, advances to first state semifinal
For the first time in program history, White Settlement Brewer softball is heading to the state semifinals.
Brewer beat Wylie 11-7 in Game 3 of a Class 5A Division II regional final series to advance. The Bears (25-9) will face Hallsville (30-7-1) in a three-game series starting Wednesday in Athens.
Wylie led 6-5 in the third inning after the Pirate offense put up five runs in one frame. But Brewer retaliated quickly with three runs in the fourth inning. The Bears pulled away in the sixth inning with back-to-back home runs from Kemren Pride and Cozette Tyson.
Both Tyson and Pride had two home runs in the contest, and Haylie Jimenez also hit a home run. Ava Pena set the tone with four hits in the leadoff spot.
