The UIL Texas high school baseball regional semifinals are underway, and several Fort Worth-area teams competed Friday. See a roundup of results from the area, and check back for updates.

Aledo advances to state semifinals

For the second consecutive season, Aledo will play in the regional finals.

The Bearcats trounced Amarillo 7-2 in game two of a UIL Class 5A Division I regional semifinal series to finish a sweep at Abilene Christian University. Aledo’s offense scored 15 runs in the series to Amarillo’s three.

Aledo (35-3) will face El Paso Americas at a time and place that is to be determined.

Pitcher Luke Sandefur paved the way, conceding two hits and allowing no earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. He walked five batters and tallied six strikeouts. Dane Brown took over in relief and allowed zero hits the rest of the game.

LSU pledge Lucas Nawrocki was a force, tallying four RBIs on two doubles. Six Bearcats had multiple hits: Nawrocki, Wilson Sehnem, Luke Gladchuck, Landon Barnes, Dylan Duran and Jackson Loos.

The Bearcats are searching for their first championship repeat in program history.

Birdville loses twice, drops series to Americas

Birdville started the day with a one-game advantage over El Paso Americas in a Class 5A Division I regional semifinal series at Permian High School.

But things took a turn, and Birdville (24-14-2) dropped consecutive games on Friday and was eliminated. The Hawks lost game two in extra innings; the contest was tied at 2-2 after both teams scored twice in the third inning, but from then on, both teams struggled to find a groove.

The game was scoreless until the eighth inning, when Americas (27-8-1) seized a walk-off win on a Hawk error. Birdville starting pitcher Carsen Blake threw the entire game, surrendering five hits and zero earned runs.

In that contest, Birdville outhit Americas 12-5 but struggled situationally. The offensive woes continued in the deciding game three, as Americas starting pitcher Aiden Lester was nearly perfect, allowing one hit and no walks in a complete game, shutout.
