Class 5A UIL state track: Timberview wins boys team state title, more from area

The Class 5A UIL Texas high school state track and field meet was held Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

With 44 points, Mansfield Timberview won the boys Class 5A team state championship. Frisco Heritage and Liberty Hill came in second with 34 points. Keller Fossil Ridge has a very strong showing with 32 points.

Fort Worth Arlington Heights senior defends 100 meter title

Fort Worth Arlington Heights senior Justin Stewart is the fastest in Class 5A in consecutive years.

With a time of 10.23, he barely beat Keller Fossil Ridge’s Jayden Kennedy (10.24). Stewart beat the 10.30 time he posted as a junior. Stewart comes from an athletic family, as both his parents competed for Jamaica in the Olympics.

Mansfield Timberview sizzles competition in 4x100-meter relay

Mansfield Timberview entered the 4x100 relay with high expectations and delivered.

The Wolves posted a blistering 40.22 time to win the state championship. The team included Trysten Shaw, Kobe Smith, Cliff Nguyen and Brandon Gilmore. Both Red Oak and Midlothia Heritage finished under 41 seconds in a tight race.

Timberview junior takes 300-meter hurdles crown

Timberview junior Trysten Shaw, also a member of the 4x100 meter team, won his second state title in the 300-meter hurdles with a 36.29 time.

Mansfield Summit athlete wins state title in boys long jump

Mansfield Summit senior Domonique Young won the boys Class 5A long jump state championship with a 24-0.25 mark. Young, also a football player, is committed to Davenport University. He played both sides of the ball, contributing in all facets of the game for the Jags.

Mansfield Timberview girls podium in 4x200 relay

Mansfield Timberview’s team of Da’Nayah Batiste, Brooke Middleton, Jayla Bledsoe and Reagan Williams finished third in the 4x200 relay with a 1:37.30 time. Fort Bend Marshall’s team won the state title (1:36.04).

Timberview runner thrives in 400 meters

To continue Mansfield ISD’s success, Timberview senior Brandon Gilmore placed second in the boys 400 meter with a 47.27 time. He finished 0.02 seconds behind Christian Porter of Belton, the state champion.

White Settlement Brewer senior podiums in 800 meters

White Settlement Brewer senior Aaliyah Williams finished third in the 800 meters with a solid 2:12.83 time. Dallas Highland Park freshman Adelaide Wortman won the state title (2:11.25).

Aledo sophomore podiums in pole vault

Aledo sophomore Addie Fields thrived in the girls pole vault with a 12-6 mark. She finished in a three-way tie for second alongside Dylan Wyrick of Argyle and Tristen Grimes of Gregory-Portland. Comal Smithson Valley’s Sofia Mitschke won the state title (12-9).

Fossil Ridge’s Caleb Wood takes second in triple jump

Keller Fossil Ridge junior Caleb Wood placed second in the tiple jump (49-6.25). Liberty Hill’s DJ Seaborn won the state title with a 51-0.25 mark.

Timberview athlete takes second in girls long jump

Mansfield Timberview’s Alexandria Drummond thrived in the girls long jump, taking second place with an 18-11 mark. The state champion, Lauren Carrothers of Prosper Walnut Grove, won with a 19-4.

Timberview freshman makes the podium in discus

All it took was one throw for Mansfield Timberview freshman Destiny Ojo to make the podium in girls shot put.

She recorded a 153-4 mark on her first attempt, which earned her a third-place finish. Brielle Lawson of Rosenberg Lamar Consolidated won the state title (157-10).

Aledo distance runners make an impact

Aledo junior Tyler Connelly was the first Fort Worth-area athlete to reach the podium Friday. He ran the boys 3,200-meter run in 9:15.33, taking third place. He finished a fraction of a second ahead of Grapevine’s Andrew DeYoung, the fourth place finisher.

Frisco Lebanon Trail’s Andrew Malan won the state title with a 9:08.32 time.

Aledo also had a strong showing in the girls 3,200-meter run, as senior Molly Garrison finished in fourth place (10:48.76).
