The Class 4A UIL Texas high school state track and field meet took place Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.

Fort Worth Dunbar’s Cayden Brooks wins long jump title

Fort Worth Dunbar senior Cayden Brooks thrived in the Class 4A long jump, winning the state championship.

After posting a 22-2.25 mark in his second attempt, his fifth jump made him a champion. He recorded a 23-10.5 mark, beating second-place finisher Jeremiah Caldwell of Taylor (22-10).

Brooks also made the podium in the triple jump, taking second place at 47-6.5 behind Tyler Chapel Hill’s Ke’rion Green (48-0.5).

Decatur’s Keaton Goode podiums in shot put

Decatur senior Keaton Goode took second place in the boys Class 4A shot put with a 60-4.75 mark. Kolton Dearth of Stephenville won the state championship (61-2.50). Goode was in the lead until Dearth’s final attempt.

Alvarado’s Ethan Park finishes third in high jump

Alvarado junior Ethan Parker finished third in the boys Class 4A high jump with a 6-6 mark. It was a tie with Floresville’s Mason Johns. The winners, Brycen Williams of Canyon West Plains and Kobe Prejean of Hamshire-Fannett, tied for first place with a 6-7 mark.
