These 4 Fort Worth-area softball teams remain ahead of regional finals
The UIL Texas high school softball regional finals start Wednesday, and four Fort Worth-area teams are set to play: Byron Nelson, Aledo, White Settlement Brewer and Brock.
Byron Nelson sets sights on a state power
Byron Nelson (32-2) will aim to take down Denton Guyer (36-5-1) in a Class 6A Division II regional final three-game series starting 7 p.m. Wednesday at Guyer High School.
The Bobcats will aim for program history, as they’ve never made a state semifinal appearance, according to UIL archives. They’ll have to take down an opponent with a ton of recent success in Class 6A.
With a series victory over Byron Nelson, Guyer will advance to its third state semifinal in four seasons. Defeating a surging Byron Nelson squad, however, may prove to be its toughest task yet.
Byron Nelson, after missing the playoffs in 2024 and 2025, skyrocketed to the top of Class 6A Fort Worth-area softball behind sophomore pitcher Meredith Hambric, who has thrown a team high 164 innings with a strong 1.24 ERA. She has 222 strikeouts on the season.
Brewer looks to continue stellar run
After finishing in a tie for second in District 5-5A, White Settlement Brewer is on a roll in the postseason.
The Bears (23-8) are set to face Wylie (24-13) 6 p.m. Thursday at Stephenville High School to start a Class 5A Division II three-game regional final series. According to UIL archives, Brewer has never advances to the state semifinals.
A trio of underclassmen in key roles are spearheading the surge. Sophomore Cozette Tyson and freshman Ava Pena are both batting over .500, and sophomore Avery Welch has a team high 11 home runs.
Junior Haylie Jimenez has also been a key contributor with a .467 average while posting team highs in doubles (16) and stolen bases (20).
Wylie will aim to return to the state semifinals for the first time since the 1996 season.
Aledo continues consistent success
Aledo has been a staple in the UIL softball playoffs and the 2026 season has been no different.
The Bearcats (28-10) are set to face Abilene (27-1-1) in a Class 5A Division I winner-takes-all one-game regional final, 4 p.m. Friday at Lady Blues Field in Graham. With a win, Aledo will appear in its fifth state semifinal in six seasons.
During that stretch, Aledo has fallen just short of winning its first softball state championship since 2015.
If the Bearcats are victorious, a rematch with 2025 state champion Melissa could be in store. Melissa is nationally ranked and trounced Aledo 15-4 in the 2025 state semifinals.
Leading the charge offensively for the Bearcats is senior Kyleigh Pawlak, who has a .411 average and a team high 39 RBIs. Sophomore Tempe Perry has been effective as a pitcher, posting a 2.12 ERA in a team high 92 2/3 innings pitched.
Brock looks to stay alive
Brock softball has eight state semifinal appearances in its history, according to UIL archives.
But for the first time, the Eagles have a shot to advance to that point in Class 4A. Brock (29-10) will face Amarillo Randall (30-8) in a Class 4A Division II three-game regional final series starting 6 p.m. Thursday at Abilene Christian University.
In 2026, Brock won the District 6-4A title with a 10-0 run and has outscored opponents 320 to 149 on the season.
