UIL girls golf state tournament: See standout performances from local athletes
The UIL Texas high school girls golf state tournaments concluded Tuesday.
Here are the notable performances around the Fort Worth-area:
Southlake Carroll leads 6A squads
Southlake Carroll thrived at the Class 6A state tournament at the TPC San Antonio Oaks Course. The Dragons placed second as a team, shooting 52 strokes over par.
Southlake Carroll was the only Fort Worth-area team to place inside the top 10. Leading the charge was Gia Ahlowalia, who shot 4 strokes over par to take a fifth-place finish.
Carroll first-year Olivia Neal had a strong state debut, shooting 14-over for a 24th-place finish in a three-way tie.
Carroll’s Tyler Burtnett and Aubrie Nolen finished in a tie for 34th place and teammate Stephanie De Marco rounded out a strong team showing with a 36th-place finish in a three-way tie.
Byron Nelson’s Elle Pistana also had a strong showing, shooting 7 strokes over par for a sixth-place finish in a four-way tie.
GCISD leads area 5A schools
Grapevine-Colleyville ISD had a strong showing in the Class 5A tournament at Legacy Hills Golf Club.
Colleyville Heritage took fifth place in the overall standings, shooting 42 strokes over par. Grapevine placed ninth, shooting 71 strokes over par.
Leading the way for Colleyville Heritage was Audrey McCallum, who shot 2 strokes over par for a fifth-place individual finish. It was a three-way tie, which also included Grapevine sophomore Megan Marais.
Colleyville Heritage’s Areiya Glenn and Jumee Lee both shot 8 strokes over, ending in a four-way tie for 15th place.
Grapevine’s Jules Moore had a strong showing, shooting 14 stokes over par for a 30th place finish. Aledo’s Emily Crick also did well, shooting 155-over, ending in a four-way tie for 33rd place.
Joshua’s Kaylee Yuan led the Fort Worth-area, shooting 1 strokes under par for a third place finish. She tied for second but did not win the playoff.
Fort Worth Benbrook’s Avery Glanzer thrives in Class 4A
At the Class 4A tournament at Legends Golf Course, Benbrook senior Avery Glanzer led the Fort Worth-area. She shot 3 strokes over par, taking a second place finish.
Springtown sophomore Dixie Crain tied for fourth place, shooting 6 strokes over par.
