A Fort Worth Benbrook athlete started his team’s run in the UIL Texas high school baseball playoffs with a standout performance Wednesday.

In a Class 4A Division II bi-district round game against Bridgeport, senior Western Oklahoma State College commit Sebastian Martinez threw a no-hitter, leading Benbrook (18-9) to a 5-0 victory. He struck out 15 and allowed one walk.

Playoff no-hitters are a rarity, yet Benbrook has history of it. The Bobcats tossed three consecutive no-hitters in the 2024 season en route to the regional semifinals. Martinez, in his sophomore year, was one of the pitchers.

The winner of Benbrook and Bridgeport’s series will play either Brock or Levelland in the area round. It could be an opportunity for redemption, as Benbrook fell to Brock in the 2025 area round.

Ahead of the playoffs, Benbrook swept through District 8-4A with a perfect 10-0 record, winning the district title. The Bobcats haven’t lost a district game since the 2023 season.
