Here’s the only Fort Worth-area high school player selected in 2026 NFL draft
The third day of the NFL draft sees 157 players get selected, and one of them on Saturday came from a Fort Worth-area small town.
Dametrious Crownover, a Grandview native, was selected in the sixth round with the No. 196 overall pick by the New England Patriots. A 6-foot-7, 319-pound offensive tackle who converted from tight end, where he shined at Grandview High School, Crownover is the first player to be picked in the NFL draft from Grandview, located about 35 miles south of Fort Worth.
A former three-star recruit who won two state championships with the Zebras, Crownover spent five seasons at Texas A&M and started 27 games at right tackle for the Aggies. In addition to his offensive responsibilities at Grandview, he was also a defensive end. He graduated in 2021 in a class of 85 students. He was a first-team all-district selection in his junior and senior seasons in 2019 and 2020. In the class of 2021, he was ranked as the No. 441 overall recruit in the country, according to 247 Sports. He was the No. 19 tight end and the No. 64 recruit from the state of Texas.
Crownover’s father was a defensive end at Baylor in the early 1990s, and he’s had two brothers play college football, including Earnest Crownover III, who signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2023.
With an 86-inch wingspan, he is expected to have one of the largest and widest physical profiles of any prospect drafted this weekend. He wears the length well, as his athleticism is backed up at the tackle spot from instincts he had at tight end. He is expected to be the only Fort Worth-area prospect drafted this weekend.
